The greatest thing about owning a next-gen console is that you know you won’t be needing to upgrade that puppy to play the latest and greatest games on it. Gone are the days of the Nintendo 64 era when one had to go out and buy the Expansion Pak to increase the console’s memory from a whopping 4mb to 8mb, just so you can access all the bells and whistles of Perfect Dark. No sirree, we gamers of the 21st century expect to be able to play all the latest games on our beautiful next-gen consoles until the day the post-next-gen consoles are released. At least that is what we want, although we see a danger for the Xbox 720 and PS4 all the same.

So when it was announced that GTA IV was going to be seeing its inevitable iteration on the PC, keyboard and mouse gamers around the globe started saving their spare change in case they required an upgrade. Well the news is in today that said PC gamers who haven’t had the chance to play GTA IV on a next-gen console will not have to necessarily break open their piggybanks to enjoy it on their gaming rigs. In fact, most PC gamers will get to experience it for cheaper that their console brothers!

The recommended specs for GTA IV are; Windows XP SP2, Dual core processor (Intel Pentium D or above), 2GB of RAM, 18GB of hard drive space, a 512MB Direct 3D 10 compatible video card or Direct3D 9 card, and a DVD dual-layer drive. All things considered, the recommended settings could have been a whole lot loftier.

For the PC exclusive crowd out there who haven’t had the chance of playing GTA IV yet, look forward to exploring Liberty City later this year.

Amazingly low-level. I'm really surprised, the game engine must be able to handle the huge draw distances with minimal impact.

Now let them REALLY get it right and do it with a first-person mode, or, please can some clever bastard hack one up for the PC version. How SUPREME would GTA IV be then...?!

...without to many upgrades. I was psyched when I saw it was coming out in November. I mean, I knew it was coming out on PC, it was inevitable, but I was still psyched. Don't get me wrong, I have it on Xbox 360 and it's great on there too, but everyone knows it'll be better on PC. Wish the specs weren't so general though. Like, "Dual-Core Processor"...ummm, obviously, but what speed? And a 512MB DX103d compatible graphics card but also pretty general. 18GB of hard drive space is going to be the biggest thing I've installed on my computer to date I think. I mean, I've installed games that are around 9 or 10 gigs, but never 18 gigs. That should be interesting, but I have plenty of room so no big deal. Hoping this will work better with Vista than San Andreas did. Loved that game on my PC, but when I installed Vista it never worked quite the same. Still worked, just a few problems. 2GB of RAM was expected as you usually see that for most any games that are coming out, though it's usually 1GB for XP and 2GB for Vista. Anyway, my system specs are below. Anyone think I might be able to play it? Not a great system, but here's to hoping...

-AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.6GHz
-2GB PC6400 RAM
-512MB 8800GT
-20x DVD Drive
-500-Watt Power Supply
-22" Widescreen Monitor @ 1680x1050
-250GB Seagate Barracuda - Main Drive
-320GB Western Digital Caviar - Extra Drive
-500GB Western Digital Caviar - Backup Drive

Anyway, hoping that that will be enough. If those are truly recommended specs above, and not required, I should hope I'd be fine. And I have to agree that, all things considered the specs could've been much higher. I was really worried they were going to ask for something like 4GB RAM, 9800GT, and a Quad-Core processor. Of course, they'd never do that for the lack of consumers that have that good of a rig, but I was still worried.
