Building up a fan base around an existing intellectual property is a great way of being able to make some solid guestimations as to how successful proceeding games in the franchise will be. And when it comes to Activision Blizzard, exiting IPs with impressive fan bases seem to be more common than not.
During a recent joint event with in-game advertisers, Massive Inc., details were released on the sequels currently in development by the powerhouse publisher. MTV Multiplayer has the skinny on the event, reporting that Guitar Hero 5, a new Tony Hawk game, Call of Duty 6, as well as an original racing title from the former Project Gotham Racing studio, plus a James Bond themed racing game are all in the works. The new Tony Hawk game is set to feature a different control mechanic, with the company claiming that; “You’re not going to be playing this game with a controller in your hands.” Call of Duty 6 has been dubbed, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, with Infinity Ward working to win back their CoD crown after Treyarch’s success with Call of Duty: World at War.
Surprisingly, no Blizzard Entertainment games were mentioned at the event, although the Microsoft-owned Massive Inc. has signed a deal with Activision Blizzard for in-game advertising over several years, for up to 18 Xbox 360 and PC titles. For now, Massive will be focusing on ads for Quantum of Solace, Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero: World Tour.
